The Association has voted to try and open a film society for the young people on the estate, much like the old 'Saturday morning pictures' many of us remember going to ourselves. Parents will be able to drop their children off and collect them after the showing. Children will be able to suggest titles they would like to see and will vote each week for what they want to watch the following week. As we have full public and employee liability insurance and all KCA members are CRB checked parents can feel safe leaving their children in our hands for a couple of hours and have a well earned break!

Films will have a theme, healthy eating will be promoted as will social skills so that it is more like a youth club than just a film showing. This will link in with other youth clubs starting at the hall soon.

Our first step was to check with the local council that the community hall had the correct licence. In fact the hall is licensed for almost any type of event, from live music to films. So step one was already in place. Step two was to join as members of the British Federation of Film Societies who can give support, advice and even loan equipment. Step three was to obtain a public video screening licence which we now have.

Step four was to design membership forms and a behaviour policy. It will be essential to become a member and the membership forms must be filled in and signed by parents so we can verify ages. Every member will receive a membership card which must also have their photograph on. This will ensure that only Kingsmere residents are admitted to the club as these are the rules of the PVS Licence. A behaviour policy will be in place to ensure the safety of all children in attendance, a copy of which will be provided to parents. The film club will be free to Kingsmere residents but  there will be a 'tuck shop' for refreshments based on 'healthy eating' with small charges for food and drinks provided to cover costs.

Since then we have applied for funding from 'Awards For All' for the cost of the equipment we will need, to include not only a projector but also a new 9ft screen, receiver, DVD player and sound system. We should hear from 'Awards for All' within 12 weeks. In the meantime we need to sort out blacking out the many windows of the hall for film showings!

We now have the loan of equipment from the British Federation of Film Societies so that we can get the club going, see you on the 23rd of June 11am sharp!
