Herbie Rides Again

23 rd June 2007:

Today was the first 'test run' for our new film/youth club, over 24 children turned up with some parents and voted to watch Herbie, Fully Loaded, a classic favourite. We have a total of 37 members so hope to see more of you there this week! Below you can see pictures of the children watching the start of the film with surround sound on a 12ft panoramic screen, as good as any cinema in the country. With the black out blinds the KCA members made it was as dark as a real cinema too! In the half way interval we opened our kiosk where we served healthy eating snacks like fruit, Ice Cream, popcorn, home made cakes  & fruit juice drinks.

If we receive the  'Awards For All' grant we have applied for the film/youth club will become a permanent fixture, in the meantime a very big thank you to the British Federation of Film Societies for the loan of the equipment.

It was great seeing the children engulfed and entertained, all behaved impeccably. The Adults enjoyed it as much as the kids. We also made a profit of £26 on refreshments which will be invested on stock for the Kiosk and maintenance for the club its self.

Next weeks showing is Space Camp (pg) as voted for by the current members. Each week the children can vote for what they want to see the following week and we will also run a weekly competition where one of the children will win free tuck from the kiosk.

Long term we plan to have evening showings linked to other events for adults and older children/teenagers to raise funds to keep the club up and running and to provide other events for the residents of Kingsmere. Ideas include a 'race night' also showing 'Sea Biscuit' Or how about a classic 70's film followed by a 70's disco? All ideas welcome!

We look forward to seeing you there 10.45am. Saturday 30th June 2007.

It was a great success and thank you to all those who helped make it happen.
