Kingsmere Community Association Minutes 30th Mar 2010 Present: George Hearne (Chair) Kate Daly (Secretary) Margaret Salsbury (Treasurer) Deborah Bate, Jill Barlow, Amber Barlow, Jerry Daly, Sean Gilmour, Tony Goddard, Evelyn Gilmour, Caroline. Apologies: Chris. 1) Agreed minutes of the last meeting, no amendments. 2) Official Opening Event for green spaces project: We have been given a budget of £1,000 for this event from PFP. A provisional date of the 26th June was agreed but this is subject to change. We discussed ideas for the event. The consensus was to try and make the event much more outdoor and use the hall just for a seating and eating area, weather permitting. DB to do letters for raffle prizes to local stores. We agree to provide a BBQ, raffle, tombola, golf, and a colouring competition for the children to be delivered to residents a week before the event. We discussed hiring the go-karts, Hunters Moon with the Pentacle Drummers, Urban Shadows, possibly animal magic and the bouncy castles. We agreed to ensure that the tombola featured sports and gardening prizes to compliment the green spaces project. Team games and a tog of war between the RSL’s, police and KCA was also suggested. KD to book the above agreed performers. Also look for a childrens entertainer. 3) Annual Summer Event: We usually hold our annual summer event on the first Saturday in September but we all agree that we can cancel it this year as we are doing a large event in June, as above. 4) KD explains that there was not enough money in the PFP/Big Lottery project to fund the street gym equipment that residents wanted for the estate. KD has been applying for funding for a street gym and to date has secured enough funds for three items of gym equipment. A treadmill, ski machine and double station chest press. Thanks to Amicus Horizon, the council’s devolved budget and savings on the actual project for these first three items. We need another four items of gym equipment to provide a full gym on Kingsmere. KD is awaiting a meeting with the Duke of Devonshire Trust and is hopeful they will also fund one or two pieces. KD to try and source further funding from Seedcorn/grassroots and Youth Bank. KD advises that Mark Viggars of PFP has a pot of funds for projects after the green spaces work is finished to encourage its use. A visit to the senior club is being organised by a local sports coach to discuss with the young people what activities they would like. Basketball is suggested as being a sport both boys and girls enjoy but our lead and decision will be from the young people who attend the club. Junior leader DB is asked what the children may like and requests lower basketball hoops. To be arranged by KD. Mark Viggars also suggested getting a trainer and diet adviser to work around the street gym for a few weeks after it is completed to encourage use and give advice. DB suggest we contact the family health centre and local gyms. 5) Treasurers update: Treasurer updates the balance of the accounts 6) A new treasurer is required and Evelyn Gilmour offers to take this officers post. The committee vote and agree to instate EG as our new treasurer and thank her for volunteering. Further, Caroline from Hengist Close and Chris, also from Hengist Close (who could not be here tonight) have also asked to join the KCA. Existing members vote and agree for Chris and Caroline to join. KD to provide new members with all KCA policies to read and sign and to arrange CRB’s. Amber Barlow will become a full youth member with voting rights from her 15th Birthday in April as agreed. KD to provide policies to Amber after this time. 7) AOB: (a) JD updates the members re the new bike racks for outside the hall and the Sky TV dish to be fitted to the hall shortly with the plan to utilise to show the world cup, tennis etc. (b) We discuss the idea of CCTV for the hall and surrounding areas and KD advises that the RSL’s are against the idea. KD to try and get the police to agree the idea which would help our case with the RSL’s. (c) DB requests that her daughter, Jess, a junior youth club volunteer needs first aid, food hygiene and H&S training. KD to organise this and for new members as appropriate. (d) DB also requests a cheap DVD player for the Junior club, this is approved. KD to purchase. (e) DB suggests contacting the Bishop of Chichester for funding for the street gym. KD to look into accordingly. (f) SG advises he has still not received his CRB so KD to chase Steve Betts about this. 8) Meeting Closed. Date of next meeting TBA. Minutes signed and agreed by Chair, George Hearne. UPDATES: Date of Green Spaces event is now the 3rd of July 2010. Vanessa from Hengist Close also requests to join KCA. At informal meeting members approve Vanessa to join. |
